Hello Darlings -

THE JACOBS FAMILY has created what is destined to set the standard for all showjumping events in The United States.

Siblings LOUIE, CHARLIE AND KATIE (right) called upon their many experiences as riders and© The Book LLC: Charlie Jacobs, Katie Jacobs-Robinson and Louis Jacobs owners of some of the country's top show horses to put together a spectacular event... The JACOBS FAMILY has done its homework  well and  it is obvious THE PALM BEACH MASTERS will become the competition everyone will want to attend !

Set in the 200 acre park-like setting of Deeridge Farm, in Wellington, Florida, visitors really don't know where to look first. From the huge, two story tented spectator pavilion to the pristine grass ring, to the spotless stabling area with its large, horse friendly grassy area. The farm is perfectly groomed, beautiful flowers, lakes and walk ways. With all-weather and grass areas to ride and lunge the equine amenities are outstanding.

THE TABLE HOLDERS were treated to amazing meals each day - from lobster to lamb chops and almost anything your heart desired. Everyone in the tent felt as if they were special guests. Original artwork was hung and beautiful, fresh flowers were  everywhere in the tent.

THE CREAM of America's professional staff was on hand to judge, manage, and organize the show...

WE LOVED seeing JOAN and LOUIE JACOBS dressed to the nines for every presentation... DAN CARR was on the grounds and the footing was absolutely amazing  - the grass schooling area was raked and groomed every evening ! ! ! The hats, shirts and jackets with the PALM BEACH MASTERS  logo were of excellent quality and the folks in the shop could not have been more gracious or helpful... The ingate men and staff in coats and ties brought back memories of the old Madison Square Garden days.

COMPETITION was fierce in every class with coolers and huge ribbons  presented to the successful competitors... The courses were beautifully presented and a large TV screen made for easy watching no matter where you watched... A second ring, with all weather footing,  provided space for national classes... Yet another separate, all-weather ring was available for quiet flating and lunging...  The winner's national anthem was played for winners.

ONE EVENING the JACOBS FAMILY opened their beautiful home and had a lovely party. Guest spilled out of the house onto the terraces with spectacular views.  Once again, great wine and © Kenneth Kraus: James Parker, Tab in hand 1-17-13food, as well as good company set the tone for the competition to come. JERRY and PEGGY JACOBS are the very best hosts !!

AMERICA'S  top photographer, JAMES LESLIE PARKER, was on hand....

He was everyone's personal photographer for the week taking pictures of every horse !!  On JAME'S website, you can download your pictures, print them and post them - for free !! All compliments of THE JACOBS' FAMILY, THE BOOK LLC  & THE PALM BEACH MASTERS !!!

EGYPTIAN rider NAYEL NASSER  and his horse LORDAN were the winners of THE WORLD CUP QUALIFIER on the sunny © Lauren Baker: Laura Kraut and ZeremonieSunday afternoon. Speedy LAURA KRAUT and her ZERMONIE (right) raced around the jump-off course to place second...SERGIO ALVAREZ MOYA, from Spain, on his own ARRAYAN, finished third.

IT WAS obvious  that THE PALM BEACH MASTERS is a labor of love for this family... WE are sure this one will only get better and better as the years go on.

Hopefully those who enjoyed the weekend will not forget to thank the hosts who shared their lovely © Amy McCool: Mavis Spencer and Disco Ladyfarm and passion for show jumping with everyone.

THE MICHAEL M. MELLER AWARD was presented to MAVIS SPENCER (left)... She  is one the hardest working young ladies at the horse shows and this was a popular winner.

MEREDITH MICHAELS-BEERBAUM  (right) and her horse COMANCHE had a frightening fall when he left a little early and was unable to get© Alden Corrigan: Meredith Michaels Beerbaum across an oxer in the WORLD CUP CLASS... MEREDITH slowly walked to the ambulance, went to hospital and was diagnosed with two broken ribs. COMANCHE  was apparently fine after the fall.

MICHAEL MATZ  had a great win with D.D. MATZ's nice filly at the racetrack on Saturday and he was ringside to watch son, ROBERT, compete at THE MASTERS... DAN REED was a busy Head Steward who flew home right after the show to visit CALMUMET FARM to oversee installation of "DANDY PRDUCTS" at the venerable breeding farm in Kentucky...

THERE WAS a lovely afternoon memorial service for KIKI UMLA in the pavilion... SHE was the lady who was the " Keeper of the Gate " at many of the country's best horse shows... Always beautifully dressed, wearing her trademark Shalimar perfume, and accompanied by a perfectly behaved dog, © Kenneth Kraus: Kiki Umla ai 4-7-07she answered all the silly questions and found seats for your guests when none were available... She ran the original ' Five Dollar Ring " years ago...

In her memory, "The Gate Keeper's Trophy" has been created. This pretty silver trophy is to be presented to someone who has done great things for the horse show community, and the inaugural winner was MICHAEL MORRISSEY, who was tearfully surprised to  be awarded this honor which is named for his dear friend, KIKI (left).

THE JACOBS FAMILY FOUNDATION  is very active in the Wellington, Florida area... Athletes, Kids at Risk, and Preservation  have been recipients of nearly a quarter of a million dollars in donations. The most recent  recipient is  THE FINE ARTS PROGRAM  at Wellington High School which received computers !!

THANK YOU to the JACOBS FAMILY for an outstanding week.
THE ASPCA MACLAY FINALS  has announced the judges' panel for 2017... BERNIE TRAURIG & RALPH CARISTO will handle the  judging duties... Great selection !!

ELLEN CONWAY VEITCH (right)passed away just the other day after a long illness. She was a Steward © Kenneth Kraus: At the time, we callled this one - Queen Ellie emerges from her throne!and horse show secretary who officiated at some of the very best shows... THE NATIONAL, THE CAPITAL CHALLENGE & many of the Kentucky horse shows.

She was a horsewoman through and through and was a lady surrounded by a family great horsemen...

Her father was HALL OF FAME MEMBER DANIEL CONWAY, an outstanding judge and great horseman.

Her husband, JOHN VEITCH, trained for Calumet Farm and squired the famous ALYDAR through his great racing career, officiated as a racing steward, has trained Breeders Cup winners.

ELLEN'S great smile and sense of humor will be missed by everyone.

WE HEAR that VINCE DUGAN from Unionville, Pennsylvania, was seriously injured recently on his farm while removing a tree branch on his property... Broken ribs and 2 broken vertebrae will keep him on the sidelines for five weeks.

MARILYN LITTLE, show jumper and eventer was air-lifted to hospital after a fall at an eventing exhibition in Wellington, Florida. Luckily she only suffered a mild concussion and was released from © Kenneth Kraus: Jimmy Torano 2-2-10the hospital.

NOW IT IS back to reality in the horse show world... It is important to keep raising the standards of the shows - not just the number of entries!

TAKE a look at the part you play in the horse business - owner, rider, trainer, official - whatever...

You need to remember that most people will never remember what, when or where you won or who you rode...

They will always remember the kind of person you are - considerate, polite, honest.. Too many of today's horsefolks consider themselves above the others and that is a most unattractive way to be remembered.

NEVER forget that Reality is all you have left after you have used up all your dreams...
